Tottenham Hotspur’s new midfield coach, James Maddison, has spoken about what it’s like to work with the attacking line.
British media outlet Football London published an interview with Maddison on Aug. 8 (ET). Maddison talked about the style of Tottenham manager Angie Postecoglou and how he works with Tottenham’s front three of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Dejan Klucepski.
Maddison recalled the match against Shakhtar Donetsk at home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sept. 6. Tottenham went on to win 5-1, but the first half was tied 1-1. Postecoglou said there were some things he didn’t like about the game.
“Postecoglou is relentless in his message,” Maddison said. He wanted us to do more. He didn’t want us to relax. He said we shouldn’t be happy with a 1-0 lead, we should be scoring two, three goals, and that’s why we were so hot in front of goal in the second half.”
Maddison is the kind of attacking midfielder Tottenham hasn’t had in years. Spurs have been without a creative No. 10 playmaker since the departure of Christian Eriksen in 2020. His predecessor, Antonio Conte, played a counter-attacking system that utilized wing-backs. Postecoglou prefers to play attacking football with more possession. Tottenham signed Leicester City field general Maddison for £40 million.
Linking up with Kane, Son Heung-min and Klucepski is obviously the most important 메이저사이트.
Maddison added: “As a player with a new manager, I’m still learning. I will continue to work hard. I think I’m at my best when I’m linking up in the center and rotating with Kane, Son, and Klucepski. When I saw Tottenham’s front three, I was excited to be able to play alongside them.”
Maddison added: “Against Shakhtar, I played in the number eight and number 10 roles. I linked up really well with Kane. Me and Sonny also had a good understanding of each other. I’m really happy with the way we deployed,” he said, adding that he had no problems adjusting.
