Germany’s Sky Sports published a series of predictions for the 2023-24 Bundesliga season from various pundits on Saturday (Aug. 16). Bayern Munich are the heavy favorites to win the Bundesliga again this season after a dramatic come-from-behind victory last season and an 11th consecutive Bundesliga title. In their final two preseason games, the Bavarians conceded six goals in two games against Liverpool and AS Monaco, followed by a 0-3 loss in the Super Cup against Leipzig, in which their defensive fears continued.

Harman, who works as a pundit for Germany’s Sky Sports, predicted the final Bundesliga standings for the 2023-24 season, predicting Leipzig to win the Bundesliga title. Bayern Munich will finish runner-up and fail to win the Bundesliga for the first time in 12 years.

Hamann, who predicted Leipzig to win the Bundesliga, previously played for Bayern Munich from 1993 to 1998, where he won two Bundesliga titles. From 1999 to 2006, he played for Liverpool, where he was one of Germany’s most successful midfielders, helping the Reds win the UEFA Champions League in 2004-05.

Harman picked Leipzig to win the Bundesliga, but all other experts had Bayern Munich winning the Bundesliga. German legend Matthäus, a former Ballon d’Or winner, picked Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga again this season. He predicts Dortmund will finish second and Leipzig will finish fourth.

Meier, who played for Leverkusen and Hamburg during her career, also picked Bayern Munich to win the title. Commentator Simic, a former German women’s national team midfielder, also predicted Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich lost their first official match of the season to Leipzig in the Super Cup on Wednesday, with summer signings Kim Min-jae and Kane coming off the bench side by side. German outlet Sport said of Kim’s performance against Leipzig, “He dribbled boldly with the ball and looked confident. However, he also showed some poor positioning on long balls. He is not yet good enough to bring stability to the Bayern Munich defense. Kane’s performance against Leipzig was also criticized by Sport’s ratings, which gave him the lowest rating in the team. The Bavarians, who will be looking for their 12th consecutive Bundesliga title, open the 2023-24 campaign against Bremen on Sept. 18.
