Coach Tuchel, is this correct…backup defender is more expensive than ‘Munich’s No. 4 transfer fee’ Kim Min-jae?

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel’s price tag for Trevor Chalobah is staggering.

According to Germany’s Sky Sports, “Munich are internally discussing Chalobah as a potential replacement for Benjamin Pavard. Chalobah is also keen on a move to Munich. Chalobah would be an ideal replacement for Fabregas, who wants to leave, as well as further strengthen the defense.”

Munich are currently pursuing a move for Fabar. A move to Inter Milan is reportedly very close. With Pavar leaving, the Bavarians needed a replacement, and they turned to Chalobah.

Originally, the way Munich wanted to negotiate the deal was to bring Chalobah on loan. However, the Bavarians’ offer was rejected by Chelsea, so they are now looking to make a full purchase. Chalobah is reportedly a player Tuchel actively wants. 스포츠토토

However, the question is the price. Chelsea’s asking price for Chalobah is a whopping €58 million. That’s more than they had to pay this summer for Kim Min-jae, who became the fourth highest transfer fee in Munich’s history.

Kim Min-jae was a €50 million ($71.5 billion) transfer. Of course, in his case, there was a buyout clause, and many felt that the buyout was low for a player of his caliber.

However, in the case of Chalobah, the likelihood of him establishing himself as a first-choice center back is very low. Even if the team were to switch to a three-back formation, Chalobah would be the fourth center back. With Kim Min-jae, Dayo Upamecano, and Matthijs de Ligt on the bench, that means he’ll be spending a lot of time on the bench.

It’s hard to justify spending the equivalent of the fourth highest transfer fee in club history on a fourth-choice center back. “Chelsea want only an outright transfer for Chalobah,” the UK’s Evening Standard reported on April 28. Chelsea’s €58 million price tag has so far deterred interested clubs.”

Chalobah is a young center back born in 1999 and has been a Chelsea youth product since he was a child. Chalobah joined the Chelsea U-23s in 2016 with high hopes, but was only loaned out. After spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield, and Lorient, he struggled to break into the first team.

It was Tuchel who brought Chalobah to Chelsea. From the 2021-22 season, Chalobah was a regular in the rotation. His performances weren’t bad. However, after Tuchel’s abrupt departure from the club, she was completely pushed out of the starting lineup.
