‘PL runners-up’ Tottenham get stronger… Central midfielder Uruguayan MF joins team warm-ups, return to action in sight

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has taken the next step in his recovery by joining the team warming up.

“Bentancur has taken the next step in his recovery from injury by joining his teammates for warm-ups ahead of training,” Football London reported on Friday. Bentancur is working hard to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Born in 1997, Bentancur is a 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder for Juventus. The former Boca Juniors youth product made his first-team debut in 2015 and spent three seasons in the professional ranks. He then moved to Juventus to play in Europe.

Bentancur spent his first season acclimatizing to the Italian game, but in his second season he established himself as a key midfielder for the team, playing over 30 games in the league every season. He went on to play 181 games for Juventus.

Bentancur is a playmaking midfielder with excellent technique despite his 6-foot-3 frame. He prefers to play as a link in the buildup or to get forward near the penalty box to add to the attack.

It’s this kind of play that has attracted the attention of Tottenham. With the arrival of Antonio Conte midway through the season, Tottenham made two big moves in the 2022 winter transfer window, signing Bentancur outright from Juventus and Dejan Kulusebski on loan. The Juventus duo joined in the winter to boost the squad and were instrumental in helping the club reach the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

Bentancur has continued to improve. With four goals and two assists in the first half of last season alone, he was becoming more than capable of producing offensive points. However, a major setback occurred. In February against Leicester City, Bentancur went down injured. Tests revealed a horrific injury: a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

It was a long rehabilitation period. Seven months after the injury, Bentancur is still expected to take a long time to return. “We don’t have a date (for his return), but we’re getting closer,” manager Enze Postecoglou said in a pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League (PL) fourth-round clash with Burnley on February 2.

But the plan is not to push it. Postecoglou added: “Maybe in November we will have Bentancur back in the team. “We are checking all the boxes and he is very enthusiastic. He came to me yesterday wanting to train, and in less than a minute the medical team ran behind him and pulled him away. It would be great to have him back because he contributed so much when he first came to the club.” 온라인바카라

The addition of Bentancur to the squad would further elevate Tottenham’s prospects. Spurs have been winning under Postecoglou this season. After four games, they have three wins and a draw and sit second in the league. They have a solid midfield with James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, and Pape Sarr. Add to that the return of Bentancur from injury, and you’ve got a recipe for an even stronger team.
