Newcastle are set to face AC Milan in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) Group F first leg of the 2023-2024 season at the San Siro in Milan, Italy on Tuesday (June 20), but the news is not good.
According to the media, Newcastle fan Eddie McKay was walking back to his hotel with his son and a friend when he was confronted by eight thugs in the Nabilly area and was stabbed twice in the arm and once in the back with a knife wielded by them. His son, who was with him, was reportedly hit in the head.
In published photos, McKay was lying on the road, covered in blood. Medical personnel were seen arriving and treating him.
Newcastle are back in the UCL after a 21-year absence. After finishing fourth in the league last season to qualify for the UCL, Newcastle were drawn in Group F alongside Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Dortmund, and AC Milan. Dubbed the “Group of Death” and with no guarantee of making it out of the group stage, it was bad news before kickoff.
